Colonial Gardens Planting Procedures
What does a planting cover?
Plantings include professional installation of a single plant, or a series of plants. It does not include consultation about the placement or choice of plant. It does not include creation of a new bed or removal of other plant material, without prior confirmation and additional fees. If these are things you may want or need, please schedule a house call with one of our professional landscape designers instead.
Booking a Planting:
Plantings are booked by visiting Colonial Gardens and selecting your plant materials. You’ll pay for the plants and the planting at the time of purchase. Plants will be tagged with your name and cared for until the time of your planting. At checkout, you’ll provide the necessary information for our team to enter your property and find the planting location. You’ll be given a flag or other marker to mark the location of your planting.
If you need to obtain permission for the planting from your HOA, make sure that you have indicated that information to our staff. We are happy to provide a certificate of insurance for plantings, which you can obtain by emailing colonialgardenspa@gmail.com. Call 811 if necessary to mark any lines. Ensure that the area is accessible and clear of debris or other barriers that may prevent planting.
Once Your Planting Is Booked:
Place your flags marking where to plant right away. The planting will occur within 3 weeks of purchase, but may happen as soon as the day after purchase. We will call the number you provided prior to leaving for your home, but we will follow through with the planting regardless of whether the call is picked up or not. We do not schedule plantings at particular times or dates. If we arrive at your home and are turned away or the flags are not placed, there will be a $100 rescheduling fee.
A team member will install your plants using our standard of professional installation. This may include planting the tree slightly above grade to allow for proper drainage, applying a starter fertilizer, amending the soil as necessary, and mulching around the base of the plant. Staking is typically unnecessary for our trees and is not part of the planting.
Be prepared to care for your plant. Your plant will be given a great start to life with a professional planting and appropriate mulch application. In the absence of rain, you will need to water your plant in the first few weeks after planting and during times of drought. Keep an eye on how your plant responds to your watering.
